Palestinian Universities and Colleges

Higher education has always played a pivotal role in Palestinian society.  This is evidenced by the number of higher educational institutions available.  To obtain a university degree, four years of college is required and additional for a graduate degree.  Two-year degrees are also available.

To illustrate the importance of education to Palestinian society:  During the first Palestinian uprising or Intifada (1987-93), universities were routinely closed by the Israeli administration.  However, universities like Birzeit University, often set up an underground network in order to continue the students’ education.
